3 Things You Can Do Today to Help with Your Divorce
Going through a divorce is undoubtedly one of the most stressful life events that you can experience. You may feel lost and while you want to help the process go smoother, you’re not sure how. However, there are a few small things that you can do today to help with your divorce. These suggestions will not only help make you feel better but also aid in moving forward.
Take Care of Yourself
Often when you’re going through a difficult time such as a divorce, the first thing that goes is taking care of ourselves and staying healthy. On an airplane, they tell you if there’s a change in pressure in the cabin you need to put on your own mask before putting on your children’s mask? Because if you’re not able to breathe, how are you going to help anyone else? The same thing applies here, if you aren’t taking care of yourself you’re not going to be able to take care of your children, pets, or whoever else is in your life. Taking time to make sure that you are healthy and well rested will make it easier to deal with everything else in your life.
It’s Ok to Ask for Help
I know many of us, myself included, have a difficult time asking for help, but it’s ok to ask for help with dealing with your divorce. This could be anything from help with moving into a new place, to babysitting so you can gather information for your divorce to just someone to talk to and help you through this tough time. Asking for help does not make us weak, it actually makes us stronger in understanding that sometimes there are things that we can’t handle on our own.
Starting Gathering Information to Be Prepared
When people first come to see us about mediation they are often at the beginnings stages of the divorce process. One of the things that we talk to them about is to start gathering information so that you can be prepared. It can often take a lot of time to get all of this information together and the earlier that you start gathering this info the easier the process can be overall.
